1. What sidestep is
sidestep is a service operated by Neill Lima ("sidestep", "we", "us"), an individual based in Berlin, Germany. The service monitors public disruptions — demonstrations, road closures, and events — in supported cities and sends you personalised alerts when one is likely to affect your saved commute or cycling route.
sidestep displays information derived from publicly available sources, primarily official police and city authority websites. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of disruption information. You are responsible for making your own travel decisions.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use sidestep. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older and have full legal capacity to enter this agreement.
sidestep is currently available for use within the European Economic Area (EEA). We do not knowingly offer the service to users in jurisdictions where it is not legally available.
3. Your account
You create an account using an email address via our identity provider, optionally by signing in with Google. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.
Notify us immediately at support@sidestep.fyi if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Price
sidestep is currently free to use during early access. We do not charge a fee and we do not collect any payment or card details.
If we introduce paid plans in the future, we will notify you by email at least 14 days in advance. No charge will ever be applied without your explicit consent, and you will be free to keep using any features that remain part of a free tier or to close your account before any charge takes effect.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Share your account with others or allow others to access the service using your credentials.
- Use the service in any way that interferes with its operation or the experience of other users.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from the service beyond what is displayed in the normal user interface.
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms.
6. Service availability
sidestep is provided "as is". We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee any specific uptime. The service may be interrupted for maintenance, infrastructure issues, or reasons beyond our control.
Disruption alerts depend on third-party data sources (police and city authority websites). We are not responsible for delays, errors, or omissions in that source data, or for any loss or inconvenience resulting from reliance on alert information.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
- sidestep is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service.
- Because the service is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising under or in connection with this agreement is limited to €100.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
8. Intellectual property
All software, designs, and content produced by sidestep are owned by Neill Lima and protected by applicable intellectual property law. You receive a personal, non-transferable licence to access and use the service for your own purposes.
Disruption data displayed in the service is derived from public sources. We make no claim of ownership over that underlying data.
9. Termination
By you: You may close your account at any time from your profile settings. Closing your account permanently deletes your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
By us: We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms and do not remedy the breach within 14 days of notice, or immediately if the breach cannot be remedied. We may also discontinue the service by giving you at least 30 days' notice.
10. Changes to these terms
We will notify you by email at least 14 days before any material changes to these terms. Continued use of the service after the effective date of the revised terms constitutes acceptance of the new terms. If you do not accept the revised terms, you may close your account before the effective date.
11. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Berlin, Germany.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also have the right to use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
